Melissa Hero is an Instructional Technology Specialist for Sequoia Union High School District and works with teachers to help them seamlessly integrate technology into their lessons. Melissa believes that good teaching requires strong pedagogy, and if used correctly, technology can enhance a lesson and student learning. Formerly a High School Biology and AVID teacher, Melissa taught using the flip class model and had a class set of iPads for the students to create, collaborate, and share their learning. Melissa is a CUE Lead Learner, Google for Education Certified Innovator (#GTASWE 2013), Google for Education Certified Trainer (2015), and a Smart Exemplary Educator (2008). In 2009, Melissa was a California League of High Schools Educator of the Year Nominee and has won other awards for her teaching. Melissa loves to share what she learns with other educators, and presents at many conferences and workshops throughout the year. She also mentors new science teachers through the Exploratorium’s Teacher Institute.
